For Clinicians
Clinician sustainability starts here
A core value of my work as a therapist, clinical supervisor, and founder of Kestrel Psychotherapy is supporting fellow clinicians, not just clients. Far too often clinicians are expected to sacrifice themselves and their own wellbeing for the work. Many times we are groomed, sometimes even from early life events, to accept the idea that the level of our self-sacrifice demonstrates the depth of our compassion and care. The helping profession, disproportionately staffed by those socialized toward caretaking, has further encouraged this self-sacrifice in the name of ethical practice and overall client care. The pressure and fear of judgement or failing others can make it near impossible to set boundaries or assert ourselves within the industry, despite teaching our clients to do this very thing. I've witnessed clinicians unable to pay their bills, experience worsening mental health, and walk away completely from a profession they loved feeling like a failure.
That is not sustainable and it is not okay.
I don't have all the answers, and no one person can shift an industry with a history of exploitative practices. But I can share what two decades across a variety of mental health settings has taught me, and foster a place where clinicians can think, be curious, and build upon their strengths as we navigate this field together.
I welcome all clinicians here, regardless of career stage, who are tired of figuring it out alone.
Below you will find current offerings, ongoing groups, and resources built with clinician sustainability in mind.
Most of us entered the field without nearly enough information about how it works day to day.
Many clinicians are left to figure it out alone, or we piece it together from colleagues who are also figuring it out alone.
Peer conversations help. Colleagues who know the work and will pick up the phone are irreplaceable. But there are moments when you need someone whose only job that hour is to think through your specific situation with you. Someone outside your workplace, outside your family or friend group, and outside the dynamics you live in every day.
Consultation at Kestrel is not therapy, not supervision, and not career coaching.
It's structured thinking with someone who has spent two decades in this field in direct care and leadership roles, and who has learned a lot about how this field works and where it fails the people working in it.
I don't sell certainty where it doesn't exist. I don't reduce complex clinical, career, or leadership questions into tidy answers because that would be a disservice to you and to the people you serve. What I do is ask the questions you haven't asked yourself yet, bring what I know about the clinical and structural landscape into the room, and think it through with you honestly. It's not about me. But I genuinely feel good when you leave with what you needed.
Oh, and if you find that you think differently than others, whether that's due to ADHD, autism, high sensitivity, or just a brain that makes unexpected connections and goes on side quests, that is welcome here. A lot of the people in your life may not fully get how that shapes the way you process decisions, navigate systems, or experience the weight of this work. I get it personally. And I think deeply about things in ways that connect dots others might not. So I'm not going to rush you to a tidy conclusion or risk missing an important piece of the puzzle.
All consultation is available virtually, regardless of where you're located or licensed.
TL;DR
You don't have to figure out this field alone. Consultation here is structured, honest, and built around your specific human situation. Itβs not supervision, there are no geographic limits, and tidy answers arenβt provided because they often don't exist. What you get is a well-informed and neutral thought partner who is focused entirely on you for that hour.
CAREER CONSULTATION
One beautiful thing about this field is there is a lot of variety in modalities, types of clients, and ways to work within it. That also means there are a lot of structural realities that don't always seem clear and lead to confusion. Employment types, contract terms, caseload expectations, what questions to ask before you accept a position, how to pick up on what an organization means when describing a job, and what sustainable practice looks like versus what others believe it is. Most of us learn this by living through situations we could have navigated better with more information.
Career consultation is a space to think through where you are, where you want to go, and what you need to know to make the decisions to get you there. That might mean guided career reflection, or evaluating a job offer. It might mean figuring out whether private practice is realistic or whether your current situation is as untenable as it feels. It might just mean you want to understand the landscape better before anything specific comes up, because being informed before a decision is always better than trying to become informed when in burnout.
This is not resume coaching and it is not job search support. It is informed, structured thinking about the field you are working in, the decisions in front of you, and the questions to ask yourself and others before you take a step forward.
Who this is for: Clinicians at any stage, independently licensed or not, who are navigating career decisions or want to better understand the structural landscape of mental health work.
Single session: $110 | $75 for non-independently licensed clinicians

What to Expect in Kestrel Group Spaces
Whether you are joining a supervision group, a peer meetup, or a small group experience, the culture here is consistent. These are spaces built on curiosity over certainty, mutual respect, and a willingness to sit with the complexity that surrounds good clinical care.
You will be expected to come with humility, engage genuinely with others, and be willing to explore how your own history and values impact your work. We operate from the belief that the systems we and our clients navigate are often oppressive, and that good clinical work includes working to reduce harm.
If you are looking for a place to be judgmental or feel superior, this is not it. If you are looking for a place to grow alongside people who leverage unconditional positive regard and an openness to learning and growth, you are in the right spot.
